About the Reader

The target audience of this work is primarily Christian readers of all denominations and backgrounds. In addition, because of the depth of this commentary and its presentation in an easy-to-read format, it will appeal to scholars and a broader non-Christian general audience as well.

Pope Shenouda is leader to over 10 million Coptic Orthodox believers worldwide, as well as Pope of the Ethiopian, Eritrean, French and British Orthodox. In this tumultuous time of many believers leaving other Churches, the Coptic Orthodox Church remains one of the only Apostolic Churches that has witnessed unprecedented growth. This has occurred in part because of the leadership of Pope Shenouda, who has emerged as a leader in interfaith dialogue, prompting many to flock to His writings.

Unfortunately, his writings are not readily available; the existing translations often poor, awkward and lacking the passion behind the original text. Professionally translated into English by an English professor of the Coptic faith, "Have you seen the one I love" is the first of these that captures the original enthusiasm and imbues the reader with hope, an ever needed virtue in today’s society and sought out by both Christian and non-Christian audiences worldwide.

Scholars have often looked to Alexandrian thought through the works of Athanasius, Origen, Clement and Jerome for commentaries on Biblical works. His Holiness Pope Shenouda III, is the current dean of the School of Alexandria, founded by St. Mark himself. This commentary is presented in the typical Alexandrian style, presentable to scholars, the general public, as well as the growing youth of the Church.

The School of Alexandria was often called upon in ancient times to deal with turmoil in the Church and now again is ready to answer that call through the writings of Shenouda.
